If you have taken Depo-Provera, you might be entitled to damages.
Have you or someone you know taken the birth control medication Depo-Provera? If so, you might be entitled to damages.
Depo-Provera was an injectable birth control medication that was routinely taken throughout the 90s and 2000s. It is a progestin (a synthetic version of progesterone) which mimics the naturally occurring hormone in the body to prevent ovulation and pregnancy. It was taken on a quarterly basis instead of the normal pill-formed birth control medication.
Recent medical studies have determined that Depo-Provera injections can cause tumors in the spine and brain. Allegedly, the companies that created the drug were aware of the risk of tumors, but continued to market the product.
Dating back to the early 80s, studies have demonstrated a high concentration of progesterone receptors on meningioma cells, and studies have also established a positive correlation between progesterone/progestin use and meningioma occurrence and growth. An intracranial meningioma is typically a benign tumor that grows in the meninges, the protective layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord. As this type of tumor grows, it causes pressure in the brain which results in severe and debilitating symptoms such as seizures, vision loss, and strokes.
If you have taken Depo-Provera, brain and spinal imaging (MRI, CT, PET, MRA, etc.) must be performed in order to see if any tumors have formed.
If you have taken the drug at any point in time, please contact our firm immediately.
